I Bought a used car from a dealer?
I bought a 2003 Pontiac grand am gt from a dealer as is. I took it for a test drive and everything was fine. So as I was driving it home the service engine soon came on. So I called the dealer back and they said bring it back so they could check it out. After they looked at it They said nothing was wrong and reset the computer to turn off the light. They said if it comes back call them. Guess what it came back on. Then they began giving me the runaround (waiting for upper management approval to fix it at no charge. MY mechanic found a lot of repairs that were needed about 1700 dollars worth. But they waited for the check to clear before they said no they would not fix it. I believe there was problems with it before I bought it. They said they would not give me my money back…Do I have any legal actions I can take??? I live in Pennsylvania What about the Lemon law I keep hearing about??
WOW I know I made a mistake but no need to be rude
PA Lemon Laws do not cover older vehicles. Once the vehicle is out of the original manufacturer’s warranty, the Lemon Law does not apply. No Lemon Law anywhere covers a 8-year old car.
Only one state in the US (California) has any kind of return period, and the one in CA is a clause attached to a contract that must be purchased. If anyone comes on here saying “you have 3 days, 30 days, etc.” to return a vehicle, they are wrong. This is a common myth in the industry.
If they are willing to work with you, great. If not, nothing forces them to do so. You signed a contract taking delivery of the vehicle “as-is”, and unfortunately the law is on their side. They can help you if they wish in order to save face and prevent you from telling the whole world “how you were screwed”, but no law forces them to do so.

Lemon Law Buy Backs Gain A Quick Understanding
In several US states, various defects, even if they reach more than 10, and all of them happen during the guaranty period, don’t represent a call for the Lemon Law, yet, there are states where a single automobile defect that might cause major damage to the driver, the passengers, or the people at streetlevel, permit it to be considered as a Lemon if the manufacturer cannot fix the problem even with a single attempt, in this situation, the safety of the people outside and inside the car becomes the discerning account for the application of the Lemon law.
Nevertheless at the instance that the car issues show up, you have to right away do everything to protect your client rights by documenting your repairs, keeping the invoices and records, and remember to acquaint the manufacturer and permit them the chance to solve the problems in your auto, otherwise you lose all rights under the different State Warranty Acts. When the auto that you reported as having issues is tagged as a Lemon and it was reacquired after Jan first, 1996, then that auto is referred to as a Lemon Law Buyback. Once the auto has been reacquired, it has to be registered again to the makers name before it is again resold to the public.
The manufacturer, upon being forced by the Lemon Law to retrieve an automobile, must perform one or two tasks as required by law beginning with demanding that the Certificate of Title and that of the auto registration should be tagged as Lemon Law Buyback. The automobile title should be put under the makers name and a decal should be attached to the auto stating the words Lemon Law Buyback, sparing nothing to make certain that folk know that the auto has been recalled. The decal is needed to be attached to the left door frame or if it is a motor home, it should be the right door frame.
Now, in the event you are the person who is purchasing a return auto or a Lemon Buyback car, the vendor which is in this example generally the maker ( or if not, the same applies ) should tell you by giving you a document that states the year, model, and make of the auto, and also , the vehicle identification number, and most significantly, the proven fact that the vehicle is a Lemon Law Buyback. Also in the same document, you ought to be able to know all the kind of repairs which has been done to the vehicle.
So if you need to understand if the car you are interested in is a lemon law buy backs, check the decal in the part of the car where it ought to be and take a look at the vehicle title and the registration.
